I must address a special thanks to a friend who has been my "mentor" if there is such a thing in dog breeding. Shirley Stroud is a very special person.
Shirley sold me my first bitch, already bred! Shirley has been successful at breeding Toy Fox Terriers for a very long time. For example, Shirley's efforts ensured the acceptance of the white and tan Toy Fox Terrier in the United Kennel Club standard. She has worked very hard to improve the breed. The lineage of many of the outstanding Toy Fox Terriers being shown today can be traced back to Windy Acres bred Toy Fox Terriers.
Due to her wealth of first-hand experience she was able to provide me with immeasurable support, advice and guidance from the beginning of my interest in the Toy Fox Terrier breed, and there is no substitute for first-hand knowledge. Without people like her, new breeders would have to overcome many more obstacles. Shirley has been extremely helpful not only to me but also to numerous others throughout the years. In her good-natured manner, she has always taken time and been patient and kind while helping me through some difficult as well as some not so difficult situations.
We have shared many "pleasantries" and mused over our successes. She so willingly has shared what she has learned through many years of experience. This is what camaraderie among dog club members is all about. She exhibits a spirit of enthusiasm that is contagious and is a model for dog breeding and dog show ethics. Shirley is a true legend to all of us who love Toy Fox Terriers.
I feel great satisfaction from being able to pass along the knowledge Shirley has helped me acquire to other people who are just starting with an interest in Toy Fox Terriers. Without Shirley's help, I would have had a much more difficult time in dealing with the unexpected little problems that come up.
Thank you, Shirley...Dot
